The North Carolina Society of Engineers, founded in 1918, is a nonprofit, non-partisan, non-sectarian organization which helps promote the social, economic, and technical interests of the engineering profession throughout the State of North Carolina. By fostering better standards of engineering ethics and disseminating engineering knowledge among its members, it helps secure efficient service for the public and protects the public from incompetence in all lines of engineering work.

The North Carolina Society of Engineers represents a wide cross section of engineering interest throughout the State. Membership is available to any of the following:

- Registered Professional Engineers
- Graduate Engineers
- Those experienced and actively engaged in construction, planning, designing, evaluation, sales, teaching of engineering and science and other related engineering activities
- Those who have established a record of performance and leadership in the industry or science relating to engineering
- Professionals related to engineering
- Students enrolled in an engineering or technical curriculum at an accredited school.

How does the North Carolina Society of Engineers function?
The Board of Directors, operating under the NCSE constitution and by-laws, manages affairs of the Society.
The Board consists of the President; First Vice-President; Second Vice-President; Secretary; Treasurer; Immediate Past President; Chairman - Publications Committee; eight voting members, two (2) residents of each of the four (4) districts, elected by the membership in those districts; and the Presidents of affiliate clubs located throughout North Carolina.
The Board of Directors holds at least four (4) meetings annually; two (2) of these meetings are normally held during the semi-annual meetings of the Society.
The work of the Society is accomplished by Standing Committees of member volunteers. These committees address a wide range of subjects including environmental, legislative, social and educational issues relevant to the engineering profession. On major issues, the Society adopts resolutions stating the position of its membership and distributes the resolutions as appropriate.
