This position serves as a Project Manager to provide project management services to campus partners, ensuring that design and construction projects are on schedule, within budget, responsive to program needs and comply with or exceed UNC and State Construction Office standards and expectations.
Responsible for the planning and management of formal capital projects, which may range from $500,000 to in excess of $100,000,000, and may include the planning and design of new buildings, repairs and renovations of existing buildings, additions, major infrastructure and open space improvements. This involves, but is not limited to, budget and schedule preparation, designer selection, contract negotiation, document review, monitoring of project progress and resolving situations that arise during design and construction.
Works with contracted designers and engineers, campus partners, committees, authorities, contractors, and others to assure that projects are accomplished in accordance with established guidelines, master plans, policies, and procedures. Work may also involve interpreting and assisting in the development of methods and policy relating to planning and design activities, ensuring that project modifications are carried out in a timely manner, and other related duties as required.

The primary responsibilities include: oversight of technical designs for the department’s repairs to building systems and small construction contracts; providing engineering support and assistance to the division departments maintaining the campus buildings’ electrical, plumbing, heating/air-conditioning, and other systems; providing oversight of Elon’s energy management program, and monitoring of utility usage; and responsibility for the technical library files and building drawings.
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, preferably mechanical or electrical engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in large commercial or education facilities. Position requires a broad-based knowledge of all phases of major building design, construction, and maintenance with a strong background in mechanical equipment and HVAC systems, including energy management system interfaces. Must be knowledgeable in design and operation of building systems; specification writing and interpretation; construction budgeting and control; strong communication skills; and a basic understanding of current federal, state, and local environmental rules, regulations, and building codes. A high level of organizational and time management skill is required.
Professional Engineering license in the State of North Carolina is required. Certified Energy Manager, LEED and/or PMP certification is desirable.
Should possess a high degree of computer skills (including CAD/CAM software preferred) with a working knowledge of GIS and GPS software. Should be very competent in working with Microsoft Office programs.

Central Utility Plant - Electrical Engineer
North Carolina State University
The Central Utility Plant (CUP) Electrical Engineer reports directly to the Plant Engineer and assists in the management and operation of the Central Utility plants.
This position ensures the reliability and dependability of the CUP electrical systems within each of the five plants. The CUP Electrical Engineer performs project management, engineering review, design analysis, training/qualification, and may stand in for the Plant Engineer when the Plant Engineer is unavailable.
Projects and programs that the CUP Electrical Engineer handles vary, but a large degree of autonomous decision making is necessary.
Engineering Supervisor

This position provides leadership and oversight for engineering functions on three technically intensive campuses. Areas include: development of campus design and construction standards for buildings and infrastructure, design review and construction inspections for renovations and large capital projects, preventive maintenance program for building and central plant systems, utility master planning, building system renewal, engineering support to campus auxiliaries and 3rd party development in tenant buildings, system upgrades to meet reliability needs and continuity of business operations, generating key performance metrics to assist in decision making, and environmental compliance related to Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures, and Potable Water Quality Program on campus.

Engineering Manager

The primary purpose of this position is the overall leadership and management for building system engineering, maintenance, and operations for assigned area of campus.
This position requires close coordination with engineers, architects, and technical personnel in other Facilities’ Departments as well as outside design firms.
This position performs oversight and management for engineering analysis, troubleshooting, design document reviews, and capital project planning for building systems.
This position is also required to maintain close coordination with Utility Departments to ensure seamless interaction of systems and delivery of utilities to University facilities. These responsibilities include management for major and minor repair as well as preventive maintenance for water, sewer, steam, shilled water, gas, HVAC, automation, refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing systems and to related fixtures and equipment including some new installations.
This position is also responsible for maintaining positive customer service to include serving as primary contact to manage service agreements with Campus auxiliary departments.

As a journey facilities mechanical engineer in the formal design group, this position is tasked with managing the design of multiple, complex capital improvement projects, typically more than $500,000 in value. Complex projects may vary from new construction of new buildings and infrastructure projects to renovations of existing facilities and systems. Examples such as full HVAC replacements, energy upgrades, HVAC unit replacements when a design is required, installation of new fume hoods, the construction of new agricultural buildings, underground utilities, renovated spaces, telecommunications & data centers, laboratory research facilities, multi-purpose spaces, landscaping, fire alarm systems, security systems, Life Safety systems – typical in higher education facilities.
